Dyeing Pad Control by Dye Measuring.

Preliminary trials at the Kusters development laboratories measured the dye content in wet fabrics behind the pad nip and used this information to control the pressure of the dyeing pads. Objective trials attempted to reduce dyeing faults caused by uneven pad pressure. The moisture measuring device used microwaves to penetrate the fabric surface. Microwave absorption correlated with moisture content and permitted the construction of a fabric moisture profile. Researchers believe that the method is applicable to reactive cold pad-batch, vat pigment, and disperse dyeing processes. To date, however, the only practical experience has been obtained with the reactive cold pad-batch dyeing process and the pad-dry-pad steam vat dyeing process.
