Desalination Systems Incorporated, a leading manufacturer of filters and filtration systems for the textile industry, recently introduced the Desal-5. The Desal-5 is a spirally wound nanofilter membrane for the decolorization of waste effluent from finishing plants and dyehouses. It removes soluble dyes, dyeing and finishing auxiliaries, multivalent salts, heavy metal chelates, and other contributors to biochemical oxygen demand at rates of 90 percent. Monovalent salts pass through the Desal-5 for collection and reuse. The Desal-5 is capable of operating at sustained temperatures of 90 degrees centigrade. A table lists specifications for other filters from Desalination Systems, including the Desal-3 and Desal-11 reverse osmosis filters for the desalination of brackish water, the Desal-F series of ultrafiltration devices for size recovery, and the Desal-G series of ultrafiltration devices for dye concentration, decoloration, and the removal of colloidal iron and silica particles from effluent.
