Ecological demands on dyeing systems

In the past dyeing systems were selected according to technical (fastness properties and colour yield) and economic (price/strength ratio) criteria. New criteria which have been adopted are the quality system and the competence of the supplier. Particular emphasis is laid on ecological and toxicological properties. An explanation is given of amendments to German legislation on effluents (including some importnat wastewater parameters) and emissions. The ecological demands imposed by consumer labels and large chain stores offer a challenge to textile processors and their suppliers. Dyeing systems oriented along ecological and toxicological lines are marketing tools which will forge the economic future of textile processors.
