Coloration of Mulberry Silk: BTRA's Contribution.

BTRA tested acid, acid milling, and metal complex dyestuffs on comercially degummed and bleached mulberry silk fabric amples. Reactive dyes containing monochlorotriazine, dichlorotriazine, and vinyl sulfone reactive groups were also tested. Researchers evaluated the dyed samples for colorfastness, washfastness, and perspiration fastness. Reactive dyes exhibited greater lightfastness, washfastness, and perspiration fastness than the other dyestuffs tested. However, researchers concluded that further studies on the effect of reactive dyestuffs on the physical properties of silk, such as breaking strength, abrasion resistance, and hand, are needed.
