Decolorization of reactive dyes and dyeing wastewater by microorganisms under anaerobic conditions

The decolorization of four reactive dyes of the azo or anthraquinone group, printing wastewate and winch wastewater wasinvestigated using microorganisms under anaerobic conditions. Reactive dyes of the azo group were effectively decolorized. The mechanism of decolorization was suggested to be a reductive cleavage of the azo bond. Decolorization rate increased in the presence of organic nutrients such as desizing wastewater. Decolorizations of printing and winch wastewaters were easily achieved.
