Two methods of analysis are introduced which permit simplified determination of the chemical and biochemical oxygen demand in relation to the appropriate DIN standards. As the time taken to measure the biochemical oxygen demand is only a few minutes, the cause of the biochemical oxygen demand can be determined in specific cases and strategies can be developed for minimizing them.
