A new method of processing fabric combines steps to reduce the volume of water required and recover potentially harmful chemicals. Benefits of the method include cost reduction and better pollution control. Hot mercerization combines scouring and mercerization, reducing the number of intermittent washings. Combing, desizing, scouring, and bleaching are combined in one step, greatly reducing the water needed for processing. Final processing steps include combined scouring and bleaching, dyeing and sizing of denim warps, foam technique for dyeing, printing, and finishing, and one step dyeing of synthetic fibers. Chemical recovery occurs through mercerization of caustic soda and desizing bath to recover size. Proper filtration and storage allows reuse of water and associated processing chemicals. 1 ref.
