Single bath reactive dyeings can cause problems during dyebath reuse. These problems are often due to hydrolysis of the dye by alkali and chemical accumulations in the recycled dyebath. Researchers developed a two bath dyeing method in which the dye is applied from a salt and dye bath and dye fixation occurs in a separate salt and alkali bath. The two bath method achieved good depth of shade with fixation levels comparable to one bath methods. dyeing cotton fabrics with the used dyebath from the two bath method achieved good color depth, but percent fixation and K/S values were poor. Recharging the used dyebaths with sufficient dye to replace the exhausted dye content improved performance for both the one bath and two bath processes. The two bath process, however, saved large amounts of salt and alkali in subsequent dyeings. 8 refs.
