BASF has written a computer program to predict the contamination of wastewater that results from vat dyeing with Palanthrene dyes or reactive dyeing with Basilen dyes. The predictive model considers such parameters as chemical oxygen demand; the quantities of absorbable organic halogen, heavy metals, sulfites/sulfates, and chlorides in effluents; and effluent color. The computer program contains properietary information about BASF dye formulations, but predictions also depend on such plant specific variables as the type of dyeing machines utilized and the exact dye formulation. An example presents wastewater contaminant calculations for vat dyeing with Palanthrene dyes. 10 refs.
