Ecotoxicological requirements for dyestuff ranges - parameters for direct and reactive dyestuff systems

Important aspects of safety at work and effluent loading at the pretreatment and dyeing stages are discussed, together with textile eco-label requirements. Loads in individual wet finishing processing stages can be evaluated in terms of dye and auxiliary parameters and plant and processing data. Measurements complement computer data. With a knowledge of data and interrealationships, effluent loads in dyeing can be conveniently determined using a simple computer program, enabling recipes and processes to be comparted. Effluent loads can be minimized by product choice and process optimization. Problems of carcinogenicity are discussed in relation to direct and reactive dyes on cellulosic fibres.
