Relationship between the refractive index and the concentration of sizing agents in aqueous systems

The relationships between the refractive index and concentration of PVA, acrylic copolymer, modified starch and their mixtures in aqueous systems were investigated. Results showed the correlation between the refractive indices and the corresponding concentration for these solutions used with the range of concentration below 15％, created a straight line. The specific index increment was defined by the slope of straight line. The specific index increment was defined by the slope of straight lines. the concentration of a sizing solution and the refractive index of a sizing mixture could be determined by using this characteristic constant.
