Biopolishing of Jute-Cotton Union Fabric.

Researchers tested the impact of biocellulase ZK, a commercial enzyme, on the appearance and hand of jute/cotton blend fabrics. Biocellulase ZK removed surface hairs from the fabric, which gave it a softer hand, increased drapability and compressibility, and reduced stiffness. The effectiveness of Biocellulase ZK depended on its enzyme concentration and mechanical friction. The treatment resulted in loss of fabric strength and weight, but researchers concluded that these decreases are acceptable if kept within controlled limits. 16 refs.
