Researchers studied the use of cellulase as a biopolisher on 100 percent cotton fabrics. The woven cotton fabrics were dyed before and after enzyme treatment. The samples dyed after enzyme treatment were purer than those dyed before enzyme treatment. Samples enzyme treated and then dyed were slightly less colorfast than those dyed before anzyme treatment. No difference was observed in terms of washfastness. The long the time of enzyme treatment, the greater the weight loss and the lower the fabric strength. Enzyme treatment before dyeing produced a purer color and a softer, fuller hand. All classes of dyes used were compatible with the enzyme treatment.
