A review of wool and wool blend preparation and dyeing processes focuses on the types of bypoducts generated and the conditions that affect the generation of these byproducts, in particular abosrbabl organohalogens (AOX). The review covers washing raw wool, yarns, and fabrics, carbonization, bleaching, dyeing, and printing. Dyeing and printing include processes with acid dyes, chrome and premetallized dyes, and reactive dyes. The preparation processes generate at most only trace amounts of AOX. In dyeing and printing, the use of reactive dyes generates significantly more AOX than acid dyes or chrome and premetallized dyes.
