A brief description is given of a novel dyeing process for synthetic textiles. This process works completely without water, thus preventing or diminishing water pollution by dye houses. Using supercritical carbon dioxide as dyeing medium, several benefits like abandonment of any auxiliary chemicals (dispersants or surfactants) result in strongly decreasing COD-BOD requirements of dye house effluents. Besides ecological advantages, economical ones may result too since no energy is needed for drying of goods dyed and the process requires less time than conventional procedures.
