The environmental management of water: technical aspects of the regulations for the disposal of waste water and quality targets, with special reference to Catalonia (Spanish)

The article examines all aspects of water quality and the disposal of waste water. The existing legislation on the quality requirements of water in the public domain is outlined, and legislation on the disposal of waste water is summarized with reference to authorization and limits. Programmes for controlling disposal and water quality are described. Methods of controlling the disposal of waste water include fines, reports to the Public Prosecutor's Office and closing dumping areas. More positive ways of controlling dumping include subsidies for purification of industrial waste water.
