The effectiveness of various protein derivatives as protective agents in dyeing wool fibres and fabrics with Lanasol dyes at pH 2 and 3.8 and at high temperatures. The effect on bleaching is also investigated. Although some protein derivatives are effective, most of them are not effective as protective agents. Large amounts of protein hydrolystates have to be applied during dyeing to achieve a protective effect. Commercially-available formulations with a slow protein content are not effective.
