Criteria for the ecological comparison of dyeing processes (Spanish) (Criterios para la comparacion ecologica de los procesos de tintura)

The possibility of carrying out the ecological comparison of different dyeing processes, is investigated on the basis of exhaustion dyeing of cotton with reactive, vat and direct dyes at a fabric to liquor ratio of 1:20. The classification of the dyeing process is based on dyeing processes without auxiliary products. Direct dyeing is found to give a lower ion budget than reactive dyeing, with the highest ion budget being given by vat dyes. Also the use of detergents after vat dyeing increases the ion budget by approximately 40％. The values obtained for critical dyeing vary more than do non critical ones, suggesting that reducing and oxidising agents used in the vat process influence the ion budget. The application of detergents in the posterior treatment of vat dyed fabrics increases the ion budget by approximately by 40％.
