Researchers studied ways to reduce and remove wastewater effluent from such textile processes as desizing, scouring, bleaching, dyeing, and printing. The Textile and Engineering Institute worked with the Madhusudhan Synthetic Process plant in Ichalkaranji to develop an effluent treatment plant. Key features of the effluent treatment plant include initial screening of water for plastic bags, threads, and other solid particles; an equalization tank that reduces effluent load by neutralization; a flash mixer with electronic pH control; a settling tank with plate separators for quick flocculation; a secondary settling tank that reduces further solid impurities in the effluent; an aeration tank that permits common wall construction for multiple tanks; and a filter for removing suspended solids and color.
