Adsorption of disperse dye by various adsorbents

Powdered activated carbon, molecular sieves, activated alumina, sawdust, diatomite and granular activated carbon are used as absorbers in the study of treating dyeing effluents by the absorption method. C.I. Disperse Red 60 is used in the investigation COD removal efficiency is found to vary considerably: here powdered activated carbon and activated alumina seem to be the better absorbers. Molecular sieves, activated alumina and powdered activated carbon are equally effective in terms of colour removal from the effluent. It is shown that a simplified mass transfer model developed at an earlier stage can also be applied to this work. There are 21 references
