Solvent-assisted dyeing of polyester fibres

Polyester fibre was pretreated with nitrobenzene and aniline at different temperatures for an optimum time, followed by dyieng with disperse dyes at temperatures ranging from 70 to 100℃. The effect of these pretreatments on the physical properties of the fibre, namely swelling, moisture regain, tenacity and elongation at break was also analysed on the basis of the nature of the two solvents. The dye uptake increases significantly even at a low dyeing temperature, leading to substantial savings in energy use for dyeing.
