Reducing environmental contamination by indigo in continuous dyeing of cotton denim yarn

The amount of unfixed indigo that is removed from denim yarn in the wash boxes on continous dyeing ranges is influenced strongly by the application method used during dyeing. A new dyeing technique that permits the use of much less indigo to achieve a given shade results in much lower concentrations of indigo in the effluent. This pH-controlled dyeing system can save dye costs, improve quality control in dyeing and minimize environmental pollution.
