An investigation into the dyeing of silk with chrome mordant dyes is reported. Different metal salts were used for complex formation to get various shades. Lightfastness and washfastness were also tested. Overall the results for the chrome dyeing of silk were favourable. The mordants which produced the best fastness properties were nickel sulphate, cobalt sulphate, chromium acetate and copper sulphate in that order.
