Gaston County's Stanley Walker plece dyeing machine can process fabrics that are sensitive to crushing or tension in rope form. These fabrics incldue piles, velours, blends with spandex, and high-stretch fabrics. Because fabric circulation is independent of liquor movement in the return phase, low liquor ratios can be used. Fabric quality is equivalent to that achieved with beck dyeing, but it is achieved at a much lower cost. The fabric transport system permits the fabric to run in an open form from the front to the back of the machine. At the back of the machine, the fabric move through a U-shaped transition and is deposited on the Walker mechanism. The Walker mechanism is a series of intermeshed undulating bars that move the fabric at a constant speed.
