Naigal Special Dyeing Company has developed a method of dyeing fabrics by conducting elecricity through them. The method is described in United States patent 5 102 423. The fabric is impregnated with a solution or a dye liquor and placed between two electrodes. A current passing between the electrodes, and through the fabric, causes the fabric to be heated. This treatment can be used to dye fabrics with cationic and direct dyes, and as a reducing treatment on polyester fabrics. It also has potential in resin finishing. The amount of water used in processing is significantly reduced, which leads to a reduction in waste effluent.
