Ultrafiltration can be used ot reduce the amount of contaminants in wastewater from dyeing processes. Nano- or ultrafiltration can reduce the color content of wastewater from reactive dyeing to about 0.5 to 1.0 percent of the total volume. It is advantageous to separate the wastewater from dyeing processes into a high salt content stream and a low salt content stream. If the two streams are processed separately using reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration, the total wastewater volume can be reduced by 60 percent. This approach also reduces total dyestuff load (by volume) to less than 2 percent, and offers some chance of recycling the salts.
