An Investigation into the Use of Supercritical Fluid Technology for Analytical, Process and Environmental Applications in Textiles.

Researchers are studying the use of supercritical fluid technology to process fluids as well as for analytical applications. They successfully used an evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD) to study the dynamics of suppercritical fluid extraction in real time. They interfaced an ELSD directly to a packed column supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC). They achieved chromatographic resolution, efficiency, and selectivity comparable with capillary SFC and a flame ionization detector. They are now comparing supercritical carbon dioxide dyeing at constant time and temperature to high temperature aqueous dyeing using four different disperse dyes on polyethylene terephthalate.
