Researchers are examining ways to eliminate dye streaking by understanding the mechanisms that limit the thermal mobility of molecule segments in fibers. They are using software to model the diffusional motion of nylon and polyethylene terephthalate chain segments in fibers. A large number of diffusion experiments have show a previously unknown dependence of the apparent activation energy on pH. They are attempting to form inclusion compounds with dyes that will permit the penetration of fibers with colorless and inert materials that later can be converted to dyes.
