Papers presented at the Cottech Europe '96 conference focused on new advances in cotton dyeing. Wolfgang A. Strahl of Cotton Incorporated reported that barre color differences decreased as the micronaire differences among yarns knitted together decreased. Yarn twist variations must be kept below 5 percent to prevent bare. BASF and Cotton Incorporated reported on their new joint venture indigo dyeing process to produce uniform color, dyefastness, and shade depth in apparel fabrics. The process removes oxygen from the dye bath to extract the excess surface dye in its reduced state and oxidizes the remaining dye. Peter S. Collishaw of BASF reported on controlled coloration using high performance reactive dyes. Ciba-Geigy AG's Cibacron LS range of reactive dyes for cellulosic fibers with low salt application make dyeing simpler and less costly, and reduce salt loading in effluents.
