Researchers plan to create a low cost anaerobic, fixed film bioreactor system for dyebath effluents that removes color, conserves water and salt, and reduces wastewater. They are testig nine commercial reactive dyes with an anaerobic, methanogenic culture enriched from municipal sewage sludge. They have successfully observed the kinetics of color removal in a batch, dextrin/peptone fed, methanogenic culture.
