High frequency energy treatment, or so-called dielectric heating, differs from conventional methods used in finishing and dyeing, including convective and contact methods of heating, particularly in its high speed, uniformity of heating, and efficiency. Because fibers vary in their ability to be processed by high frequency energy treatment, modifications are sometimes requisite. Nylon is highly processable, cotton is moderately processable and requires modifications to field strength or wetting, and polyester is poorly processable and requires wetting. Research on high frequency energy treatments focused on optimization of continuous processes for stretch fabrics integrated with dyeing and finishing lines. 10 refs.
