Environmentally Friendly Machinery for Dyeing Polyester

Carrier effectiveness in polyester dyeing varies markedly with temperature. Creative Concepts Incorporated's patented Maxitemp beck dyeing machine achieves temperatures within 1-2 degrees of boiling throughout the machine. Maxitemp machines have faciliated the adoption of more environmentally friendly carriers for polyester dyeing. Researchers tested the relative effectiveness of a trichlorobenzene carrier and an environmentally safer (green) carrier at temperatures found in conventional beck dyeing machines and those achieved in the Maxitemp. For a given carrier, small increases in temperature produced notable increases in yield. The temperature effect was greater for the green carrier than the conventional carrier. Thus, the high temperature Maxitemp allows the use of green carriers with no loss of yield of increase in dyeing time. 6 refs.
