Development of Printing and Dyeing Processes for an Ecological Acceptable Polypropylene Formulation.

Recent research on the compatibility of polypropylene with other polymers led to the development of a special polypropylene formulation that absorbs disperse dyes. This research project aims to adapt the dyeable polypropylene for processing into fibers possessing different degrees of fineness and good absorptivity of disperse dyes, define appropriate disperse dyes, elaborate complete printing and dyeing procedures for different polypropylene applications, and evaluate the economical and ecological viability of the dyeing and printing processes. Potential applications of these polypropylene fibers are apparel (trousers, T-shirts, sportswear, and linings), upholstery and and other home furnishings, technical textiles (tents, canvas, and automotive fabrics), and carpets (space dyed, printed, and continuously dyed).
