Polyester Microfibres are widely used in fashionable textiles but the small radius of the fibre causes problems with the dyeing process and colour fastness of the fabric. This article discusses these problems and explains the dyeing behaviour of microfibres. In this study polyester filament yarns of varying deniers were dyed in separate baths and in single bath. Their dye pick-up and depth of shade were compared. The extent of shade build up on microfibre fabric and regular polyester fabric, the requirement of dyestuff to match particular depth with microfilament, and the effect of overloading on fastness properties were also studied. The influence of rate of heating on the dyebath exhaustion was also examined.
