An Investigation in Role of Multifunctional Auxiliaries in Management of Effluents from Textile Processing.

A study examined the environmental effectiveness of using the multifunctional auxiliaries Solscour (to scour polyester in jet dyeing), MTA-1000 (in polyester jet dyeing), and SPL (in finishing polyester/viscose blend fabric) in place of conventional auxiliaries. Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) values for the MTA-1000 treated fabrics were less than half those for the jet dyed polyester fabrics treated with conventional auxiliaries. BOD and COD values for polyester/viscose blend fabrics treated with SPL were less than half those resulting from conventional auxiliary treatment. However, BOD and COD loads for Solscour multifunctional auxiliary treated polyester did not differ significatly from those of conventional polyester scouring. 4 refs.
