Real-Time Analysis and Control of Batch Dyeing Processes.

Conventional methods of controlling batch dyeing processes depend on adherence to set processing conditions. A recent project used a novel method that monitors individual dye concentrations in the dyebath and takes pre-emptive corrective action to ensure the desired final shade. Researchers developed a technique for the real time closed loop adaptive control of dye and chemical dosing during dyeing; a novel data acquisition and control system that allows real time monitoring of pH, temperature, conductivity, and individual dye concentrations in the mixture; and a combined flow injection analysis (FIA) high performance liquid chromatography system to monitor exhaustion and hydrolysis simultaneously. An FIA technique under assessment measures indigo concentration in a dyebath in real time.
