Automation in dyeing and finishing is increasing and information systems are complex and require programming specialists. However a dyeing and finishing technician can, on completion of the various phases of a process, create a simple documentary system which will generate a set of data about the operative processes of defective qualities. These data can be used to quantify numerical indices and deviations observed in the fabrics can be expressed as formulae. In addition simple mini-programmes of the operative processes can be carried out on a spreadsheet which can be used to improve quality control and reduce costs. This process is illustrated with reference to dyeing and finishing.
