The different physico-chemical processes being used in the treatment of azo dyestuff effluents are adsorption, flocculation, reverse osmosis, ion-exchange, coagulation and clarification. These processes have got a lot of attention for colour removal from waste water and many adsorbents have been tried for example: activated charcoal; Chitin; Fullers earth; silicagel; bauxite; peat; wool; cellulose derivatives and ion exchange resins have been used, but these processes are in most cases not economically feasible. This article discusses the various methods that are currently available treat dye effluents.
