Dye Absorption Behaviour of Sisal Fibres with Basic Dyes.

To estimate dye absorption behavior, researchers dyed sisal fibers with Methylene Blue and Malachite Green. Diagrams detail the structure of these basic dyes. Permeability and the presence of reactive functional groups determined the dyeability of the fibers. Sisal fibers can be dyed with basic dyes at temperatures ranging from 30 degrees centigrade to boil. Dye exhaustion was 60-90 percent, depending on the dyeing temperature and the amount of dye in the dyebath. The resultant dye absorption behavior followed a linear partition isotherm. 8 refs.
