Researchers used exhaust dyeing in a two stage process with monofunctional and bifunctional dyes to produce tone-on-tone effects with adequate wet rubfastness values on wool/lyocell fibers. Reducing the pH value from 10 to 8.5 reduced the wool damage that occurs in an alkaline medium. Gradually adding the amount of alkali needed to bind the reactive dyes to the cellulosic fiber also reduced wool damage. The reactive dyed lyocell/wool fabrics yielded wet rubfastness values of 3-4 to 4-5 in accordance with ISO 105-A02/A03. researchers found that the type of reactive dey used had no significant effect on the wet rubfastness value. Staining of the wool portion in the blend by the cellulose reactive dye yielded a slightly lower wet rubfastness value than 100 percent wool that had been dyed only with a wool reactive dye.
