Research studied the use of armines as wool pretreatments to improve dye uptake during reactive dyeing. Tests treated wool fibers with diethanolamine and triethanolamine, dyed the samples with Remazol Brown GR and Remazol Brilliant Orange BR reactive dyes, and spectrophotometerically determined the amount of dye absorbed by the wool fibers. Data showed that both amines increased dye uptake. Dye uptake increased as amine concentration in the pretreatment solution increased. Dye uptake also increased as the pretreatment solution temperature increased. 11 refs.
