Ultrasound Aided Open Width Washing of Mercerized 100 Percent Cotton Twill Fabric.

Researchers investigated the use of ultrasound to improve conventional washing processes. A series of five experiments to determine the effectiveness of ultrasound in the standard wash box configuration to remove caustic soda mercerized cotton twill fabrics tested two ultrasound tanks and used portable ultrasound units in the wash boxes on a Benz laboratory continuous range for the rinsing application. Results showed that ultrasound reduced the temperature necessary to achieve a particular level of washing efficiency from 190 degrees Fahrenheit to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, sharply reducing energy costs. 1 ref.
