Kinetics in the dyeing of polyamide (nylon) fibre - anionic (acid) dye in presence of surfactants

In this study the action of various surfactants on the initial rate of dyeing nylon fabric are investigated. The effect of various surfactants are observed on three different acid dyes. It was found that nylon fibre dyeing with acid dye requires initial rate of control to obtain level dyeing. Various surfactants can be added in the dyebath and levelling agents. Anionic surfactnats are found to be the best followed by cationic and non-ionic. Surfactant action depends on concentration, type and chemical structure. The structure of the dye also influences the result.
