Accidents and errors can never be eliminated completely, although, where dyeing is concerned they can often be amended. In this paper the various methods of stripping dye from material are summarised. They are described in terms of the concentration of various chemicals to be used, temperature, and time of treatment for the most commonly used dyes on various fibre materials. The article is divided into several sections describing how to strip: reactive dyes from cotton; azoic dyes from cotton; sulphur dyes from cotton; basic dyes from acrylics; acid dyes from nylon; disperse dyes from polyester; disperse dyes from acrylic; disperse dyes from acetate rayon; vat dyes from cotton; and dyes from wool. It also contains a section on the correction of faulty dyeing on fibre blends.
