The adsorption/bio-oxidation process is an activated sludge technology for the treatment of textile processing wastewater. The process reduces organic pollutant levels and breaks down complex molecules into shorter strains, which in the case of colored wastewater equates to reducing or eliminating colorization in the eliminating colorization in the effluent. The process can be retrofitted to existing facilities or installed in new facilities. This article describes an example of retrofitting the process to an existing textile wastewater treatment facility. It requires up to 50% less treatment unit volume than other process designs, while exceeding treatment requirements. This leads to lower construction and operating costs.
