basic engineering principles were used to estimate the energy consumption in specific areas of a small dye works. processing bulk yarn and fabric with some small quantities of finished products this energy was related to production and space heating requirements and this was found to correspond with historical data. the reduction in fuel consumption due to insulation of the steam supply was predicted and the achieved saving was demonstrated using a cumulative sum chart
