the shift in demand from 100 manmade fibers to garments containing cotton fibers left the dyer with equipment that had been designed to run manmade fibers and the dyes required to dye those fibers. that same equipment is well suited to applying fiber reactive dyes and direct dyes to cotton fibers. due to increased competition, many manufacturers are upgrading the quality of their cotton and polyester/cotton knitted goods. they are using a variety of methods to improve the aesthetics, including mercerization of the cotton and finer counts of yarn
