the aim of this work was to study the effect of gamma-irradiation on the mode of interaction between cellulosic cotton and direct dyes. the study showed that: 1) gamma-irradiation of cotton cellulose decreases the dye uptake. 2) dyeings of irradiated cotton fabric with direct dyes have increased fastness of washing at the boil and soaping at the boil. 3) irradiation of cotton fabric increased the retained amount of these dyes on the fabric after washing with boiling water, soaping at the boil and then extracted with 50 dmf. 4) fixing agent gives a better effect on the wetfastness of dyed fabric than does irradiating this dyed fabric
