this paper develops a method for monitoring energy demands from actual dyeing and finishing recipes. energy demand for polyester, nylon, acrylics, polyester/cotton and cotton was evaluated for more than 20 commercial dyeing and finishing processes. nylon and polyester were found to be the least energy-consuming fibers, followed closely by acrylics, and the thermosol process to be one of the least energy-consuming dyeing processes. 25 refs
