this paper describes the pad/batch-beam wash off dye system which is an improved dyeing system for 100 cotton and the cotton portion of natural blend woven and knit fabrics that dramatically reduces energy, chemical and labor requirements, thereby providing lower costs. some of the advantages over conventional batch dyeing processes are savings in water, energy, chemicals, labor, space and dyestuff, reduced fabric abrasion, and simplicity of operation schematically, the semi-continuous pad/batch dye system is illustrated in figures 1, 2 and 3, which include the sequence of pad/batch dyeing and batching, beam storage and beam washing. the discussion is presented under headings $em dash$ equipment selection; fabric preparation; dyestuff selection; procedures; washing procedure; shade matching; fastness of dyed fabric; problem areas; economic analysis. 11 refs
